Does God Wink At Us?

wink_1

Sitting in the doctor’s office this week I saw a segment about When God Winks by SQuire Rushnell (yes his first name is spelled with a capital Q).

WHAT’S A GODWINK? A godwink is what some people would call a coincidence, an answered prayer, or simply an experience where you’d say, “Wow, what are the odds of that!”

What do godwinks mean?  Think about when you were a kid and someone you loved gave you a little wink across the dining room table…Mom or Dad or Grandma. You didn’t say “What do you mean by that?” You knew.  It meant: “Hey kid, I’m thinking about you right now.” That’s what a godwink is too: a message of reassurance from above, directly to you, out of six billion people on the planet, saying “Hey kid…I’m thinking of you! Keep the faith! You’re never alone.”

My husband and I have been trying to find a vehicle for me since we are sharing a four door pickup and the kids are starting to out grow it. I have a certain kind in mind and have found some pretty good choices. I am the type of person who gets really excited about something new. Of course the vehicle will NOT be new, but new to ME! When we found the first one we had made plans to leave one afternoon after I got off work to go look at it and possibly get it. However, I kept having an unsure feeling if this was the “right” one or not. I had several devotionals that talked about waiting on God’s timing, but still wasn’t sure if it was directed at the vehicle situation.

So, I prayed.

I prayed that God would help me know if it was right, but for him to remember who I am and that if it’s a NO on this one that he needs to let it be sold when my husband calls to check on it or for my husband be the one to say we should wait. In all the excitement to get something “new” it’s hard for me to say no. So, that morning my husband lets me know that he checked on it and that it’s a 4WD and we don’t need that and thought we should wait. I took that as my answer!

We found another one online. He called and checked and it was already sold! Then we found one recently close by and I had planned to check on it after this doctor’s appointment where I saw the segment on Godwinks. After the appointment we went to eat and it took quiet a while since the place was extremely busy and trying to get three kids to pee in the potty there since we have been potty training this week. By the time we got to the dealership I was informed that they just sold it!! I saw this man who was now the proud owner and I immediately thought…well it’s not meant for me to have this one. That’s okay!

That same afternoon my husband found another one online, but was 3 1/2 hours away. It was difficult trying to figure out how we would be able to work out trying to go get it since it’s quiet a good distance and we’ve got other things going on as well. I missed reading the devotional the day of my appointment that talked about Are You Seeking the Right Stuff?, that next day’s devotional was How To Travel the Smooth Road of how we should “obey these signs that tell you to trust him and not worry. If you’ll pay attention to these signs, you’ll find it’s easy to stay on course. If you fail to heed the signs, you may notice that the road seems a little bumpier than usual.” I then decided to check out the next day’s devotional…the day we were going to try and make it work to go get this vehicle and it was Accept God’s Timing.

I got the message. The whole time I was still unsure about this one too and that was my confirmation. I told my husband we should wait. When I said out loud that I was okay with waiting, I immediately had a sense of peace about it.

Do I think God winks at us?

Of course! Just like I know as a parent what my children want and need, He knows even better about us. He knows our wants and needs. He wants what’s best for us.

Above all he KNOWS us!

I didn’t have to remind him of how I am about getting excited about things, because he knows! I just had to release that to him and he answered those prayers in what this author calls a Godwink. God is always looking out for us and sending us “winks” along the way to make sure we stay focused on what’s important…HIM. I have gotten so caught up in trying to find the right vehicle that I wasn’t spending time in the word and putting my focus where it needs to be.

Putting our priorities in order will lead us to the things that we need and want in HIS timing.

He is concerned about what concerns us. He has sent several Godwinks in this journey of finding the right vehicle. We need to have our hearts open to see the winks he sends our way. Their are no coincedences in my life, only winks from my heavenly father letting me know that HE’S GOT THIS!

He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. Then you will understand what is right, just and fair. Proverbs 2:7-9 NLT

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.  James 1:5-7 NLT

For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17 NLT

When has God winked at you?
